Facts About Whittier Law School

Whittier Law School

Whittier Law School is Whittier College's law school, which is located on an offsite campus in Costa Mesa, California. Whittier Law School was established in 1966, though it has only been Whittier College's law school since 1975. Whittier Law School would be accredited by the American Bar Association in 1978, later by the Association of American Law Schools in 1987. Even though Whittier Law School may not be ranked among the more prestigious or famous law schools or programs, it is considered to be among the most diverse in the country, ranking in at 29th.

One of the very distinct facets of the Whittier Law School is that it implements a very strict grading system, where a student must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Furthermore, the grade curve is mandatory at Whittier Law Schools, where only a ten percent of students are to receive "As."

Furthermore, many instructors and professors simply elect not to give out such a grade, resulting in the majority of students holding averages between 2.3 and 2.9. This system is often times viewed as the main contributing factor of Whittier Law School having an attrition rate of over 50%, the highest in the United States. Also of worthy note is the most recent Bar Pass Rate, which is at about 13%, extremely low when compared to other law schools in the country, and below the state's average of 61% for the 2010 term.
